First prison sentence for electricity theft

EVN Macedonia came with a shocking news informing that M. S. from Skopje received one year in prison for committing a crime - electricity theft.

There are also other cases of electricity theft where similar outcome is expected. The measures which are foreseen with the amendments of the Criminal Low, which came into force at the beginning of this year, are much tougher and stipulate prison sentences up to 5 years. Aside from this, the financial penalties for this type of crime are extremely high, ranging between 5 000 and 20 000 Euro.

This crime is harming EVN Macedonia as well the State by not charging the percentage of the regular tax. The biggest problem that the electricity thefts are creating are making the distribution grid unstable, creating environmental hazards and danger of fire on the places where electricity thefts are committed. /EVN
